# How the Pod uses Wi-Fi

## How the Pod connects

* The Pod first looks for Wi-Fi networks it already remembers.
* If it finds one nearby, it connects automatically.
* If it remembers more than one available network, it picks the one with the **strongest signal**.
* If it doesn't remember any nearby network, it turns on its own hotspot so you can [set it up](/wifi-device-hotspot).

The Pod can remember up to **15** Wi-Fi networks and passwords.

## Hotspot mode and normal mode

Once the Pod connects to your home Wi-Fi, it switches to normal Wi-Fi mode. It does not stay in hotspot mode.

To turn the hotspot back on, press and hold the **left button** for **5 seconds**. The LED eyes turn **blue**.

## Can I disconnect the Pod from Wi-Fi?

You can't manually disconnect the Pod from Wi-Fi. MyWonder is a connected device and needs Wi-Fi for its full experience, including AI conversations, new content and updates.

Some features still work without Wi-Fi, such as playing audio that is already downloaded to the Pod. See [Content Cards](/content-cards#do-content-cards-work-without-wi-fi).

## What Wi-Fi enables

With a stable internet connection, the Pod can:

* Talk with AI characters
* Download new content and updates
* Receive firmware (over-the-air) improvements
* Sync playlists and Make Your Own Cards from the Parent App
